Pardubice: A dynamic, more than 650-years old city with an architectural conservation area in its centre surrounding a renaissance castle. The city is located at the confluence of two rivers (Labe and Chrudimka); 100 km east of Prague, and 140 km far from Brno. This centre of sport and cultural activities is the seventh-largest city in the Czech Republic enjoying nowadays a fast and great economic growth partly given by the city’s advantageous location in the transportation network (Pardubice has its own international civil airport; an international railway route goes through the city; there is a progressing work on the Labe river port; and the attachment of the city to the parkway system is prepared).

HISTORICAL MONUMENTS:

an antique and exceptionally preserved city centre – which was proclaimed the architectural conservation area – with numerous gothic, renaissance, and baroque buildings
freshly and completely repaired renaissance castle, restored to its original shape from the 16th century when it served as a seat of the most powerful Czech aristocratic family of that time:
the House of Pernstein.

Velká Pardubická Steeplechase which has been held every autumn since the 1874.
This horse-race, run at a beautiful large stadium, has its place among the oldest, longest,
and most demanding tracks of the European continent.
